APTER EIGHTEEN

RULE

After I left my brother’s, I went to my mom’s house to get the kids, and then I headed to Jules’s place. She and I were going to have that talk tonight, whether she wanted to or not.

She was already dressed for bed when she answered the door. I handed her Ju’s car seat, and then went back to the car to grab the bag and a sleeping Dom. I took him directly to his room and got him in bed.

As I was pulling the covers up over him, Jules came up beside me. “Should have known his ass would be knocked out after seeing Livy,” she said, kissing him on his forehead.

I didn’t bother telling her that Claire hadn’t brought my daughter over. I was trying to keep her in the best of moods tonight.

She grabbed the baby bag that I’d dropped onto a rocking chair in the corner, and then she headed towards the kitchen with me following her.

“You know you can lock the door behind yourself, right?” she asked mockingly as she began unpacking the things in the bag.

“I already told you that we needed to talk,” I sighed.

“And I already told you that I don’t want to hear none of your bullshit.”

“We’ll see about that.” I left her to what she was doing, then headed to her bedroom. After removing my shoes, I climbed into her bed, sitting up against the headboard.

I’d just turned on her TV, and was flicking through the channels, when she entered, rolling her eyes upon seeing me.

“What do you want, Rule?”

“You already know what I want.”

“Well I don’t want to hear anything you have to say,” she retorted.

“And I’m not leaving until I say my piece, so you might as well just sit down.”

She blew out a noisy breath, looking aggrieved. “I don’t know why you won’t just leave me alone.” Though she was complaining, she still took a seat. “Let’s hear it. What lies are gonna fall from your lips tonight?”

The frown on her face would have deterred a weaker man, but it was going to take a whole lot more than that glare to shut me up.

I quickly arranged my thoughts before speaking, so that I’d get them out the right way. “There is no excuse for what happened with Tracy,” I began. “And believe it or not, that was the first time I’ve had an affair.” She opened her mouth to speak and I silenced her with a raised hand. “You know I’m not the cheating type, Blue. Deep down inside, I’m sure you know this. But at the time, I was going through some things and I was just so miserable.”

“Is misery a liable excuse to cheating now?” she interrupted with a derisive snort.

“I didn’t say that it was. And would you just let me finish?”

She folded her arms before her while pursing her lips, and I took that as a sign to continue.

“As I was saying, I was miserable, not that that’s an excuse, and then Tracy caught me one night at the club while I was drunk.
